OK, sorry we didn’t have time to update our site lately due to very busy CCC/CIC repairs, seriously we barely can keep up with it, even though we don’t need that many repairs, but since we offer these services, it would not have been right to go on 6 months vacation and let everyone be pissed with their faulty units, yes, imagine we are the only one small company, who can repair these complex units and code them on the bench to match your VIN, so you don’t have to see any dealers!

Anyways back to the main topic NBT- Next Big Thing, this is how BMW decided with the new name for new generation navigation system in 2013. Yes its really new and compared to CIC unit is a huge breakthrough everywhere: software, hardware, storage, security etc etc.

NBT WAS UPDATED TO NBT2 EVO IN 2016, BASICALLY BMW UPDATES NAVI UNITS EVERY 3 YEARS. NBT2 SUPPORTS APPLE CARPLAY AND HAS BETTER HARDWARE INCLUDING EXTRA RAM 4GB.

So lets talk about main NBT features:

• Now we have 2 computer systems in one: QNX (Linux) Jacinto CPU running all code for communication between your car and HU NBT unit +INTEL X86 CPU and NVIDIA running multimedia (CIC unit had only one 700MHZ risk CPU running everything). This is how we are getting very quick smooth HD graphics independent from QNX JACINTO CPU. So basically there are 2 laptops in one unit communication with each other using QNET high speed network!
• NBT now contains Bluetooth and WiFi modules inside, all you need is ATM telephone module!!! remember in older units everything was separate on the MOST bus, which was cumbersome and finding faulty unit was a hassle! Now you only have TOP HIFI logic7 amp sitting on the MOST bus, and only if your car was equipped with logic 7 amplifier, so troubleshooting is much easier now and in case of amp failure you get “NO WARNING TONES” message, telling you MOST bus has issues.
• NBT comes with 300$ 200GB TOSHIBA endurostar automotive HDD and they go bad. HDD is now locked to NBT unit individually, meaning you can not read HDD or replace it without HDD security installed. YES it is not easy like it was used to be with CIC units where HDD would fit from any CIC unit. So they sort of protected personal data and at the same time made it really hard just to replace HDD, so they want you you replace entire HU NBT if HDD failed.
• NBT is much better built unit, than CIC unit and finally it comes with good cooling system and has vent holes for better ventilation. All in all its very nice inside with highest quality!!! Please don’t think it doesn’t cost much to produce these units for HK BMW. I’m sure they spent 100+ millions on development alone, and parts are very expensive too, so I roughly I would say it costs at least 600-700$ to build this unit for Harman Kardon. Yes its very complex and the most complicated unit in your car, YES THE MOST COMPLICATED UNIT in your car, all other nits are quite simple vs HU NBT, for example DME or engine module has only one CPU controlling injectors and tons of different sensors, but its not even close to complexity of your NBT unit
• NBT contains FSC codes for NAVI, MAPS, VOICE APPS and they are VIN coded, so if you think of buying a cheap unit from junk yard, think twice: you will get a unit which will not work in your car properly-lots of functions and options will not match your car (unless you got lucky and donor car had same options like yours). For example PDC, cameras and so on might not work, but its not the worst part, the worst part you will not be able to use navigation or voice control or sat radio or BMW apps. YOU NEED TO CODE YOUR NBT UNIT AND UPLOAD CORRECT FSC CODES (ISSUED BY BMW SERVER) IN ORDER TO RESTORE FULLY FUNCTIONAL NBT UNIT. WHEN WE REPAIR NBT NITS WE UPLOAD ALL CODES AND EVEN TURN OF BMW APPS CODE IF REQUESTED AND CODE IT TO YOUR VIN (WE BUILT SPECIAL APP TO AUTOMATICALLY EMULATE YOUR CAR ON THE BENCH PRETTY MUCH)
• NBT DOES NOT SUPPORT SSD DRIVES UNLIKE NBT 2 EVO. BE CAREFUL NBT EVO HAS COMPNENT PROTECTION MODE, MEANING IT WILL DISABLE OR BRICK YOUR NBT EVO YUNIT IF YOU CONNECTED USED NBT UNIT TO YOUR CAR WITH DIFFERENT VIN. YOU CAN ONLY CONNECT IT WITH EMULATOR TO PREVENT IT, WE CAN PROPERLY UNLOCK IF IT HAPPENED! NON EVO DOES NOT HAVE COMPONENT PROTECTION SO YOU CAN CONNECT ANY UNIT, IT WONT WORK BUT AT LEAST IT WONT BRICK IT.
• All in all nbt unit is very nice complicated masterpiece from HK BMW, AND YOU ASKED FOR IT!!! WE ALL WANT HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED TOYS IN YOUR CARS, OTHERWISE YOU CAN NOT COMPETE WITH OTHERS, SO DON’T BE SURPRISED WHEN DEALER ASKS 2500$ TO REPLACE YOUR UNIT!!!!!

• NBT-ENTRY 2012-2016 WAS INSTALLED IN CARS WITHOUT NAVI 609 OPTION
• ITS SIMILAR ARCHITECTURE BUT HAS ONLY ONE CPU RUNNING QNX
• THEY DO FAIL, AND 99% ITS STUCK BMW LOGO REBOOTING
• UNITS MUST BE CODED WITH FSC UPLOADED

NBT ENTRY SINGLE DIN 2012-2015, they usually fail like this:

-BMW LOGO stays on the screen

-rebooting and other abnormalities

cheapest price online is $1400 and you will have to program it to your VIN, which is not very easy, while after repair it contains all you fsc data (sat radio) and coding already, so our $585 is pretty low…. so if you buy used or new, you will lose Satellite radio and other things, remember they all look the same, but part number matters: some support rear camera, some don’t, some support fiber optics, some don’t. So the best option is our inexpensive repair with 1 year WARRANTY!

• HDD FAILURE-NAVI STUCK ON LOADING PAGE, UNIT RESTARTING, GLITCHING ETC. YES IT TAKES 2-3 HRS JUST TO REPLACE HDD AND FLASH THE UNIT TO ACCEPT IT. EVERY UNIT GOES THROUGH CODING AND ACTIVATION.
